Why Me?  Why not?

two monsters together

If this was a dating app, I would have "looking for a serious relationship" in my profile.

My approach with every client is simple: provide 1-on-1 attention focused on your unique needs, based on honesty and open communication. I excel when working with small businesses and startups as I believe that building a relationship before building a project is crucial to our success. We grow together. When you win, I win.

Honesty is the best policy.

I only offer services I can provide.

My dream is to be a jack of all trades, master of all. But until then, I will only offer services that I know I can deliver on time, on budget, and of the highest quality. If I don’t feel confident in meeting those high standards, I won’t do it, simple as that. And I’ll be honest and tell you. If it’s a dealbreaker for the project, that’s ok. I would never just say yes and try to figure it out later. That’s not fair to you. You and your business deserve the best.

You only have one point of contact - me.

With the rise in websites that connect you to freelancers around the world, many designers build their business by making the sale and outsourcing the actual work. That doesn’t happen with me. When I commit to your project, not only will all communication go through me, but I will do all the work as well. There will be no risk of details getting lost in translation or delays waiting for outsourced work. I may not be able offer a team of people like an agency can, but I am confident that my “team of one” approach will put your mind at ease knowing the person working for you is just a phone call or email away.

When I say it, I mean it.

This should go without saying, but I really want to reinforce that my word to you is everything. This applies to every part of the process. When I give you a price, that’s your price. I won’t come back to you later saying I underestimated how long it would take to do something. If that happens, I’ll absorb the extra time on my end. If I commit to finishing a project in 10 business days, you better believe it will be done in 10 days, if not sooner. You’ll never have to second guess anything I commit to.

I will never upsell you.

I truly believe that by delivering designs that provide value for you and your company, our business relationship will continue to grow. I realize that you’re taking a chance on me when we agree to work together. I’m sure many would disagree with me, but I will not jeopardize that vote of confidence by trying to upsell you additional services or products that you don’t need. That’s not providing real value to you. My goal is to provide a high-quality service and experience that will leave you asking me what else I can do for you.

I will learn for you on my dime.

Unfortunately, I’m too busy to learn everything that I would like to. But sometimes the stars align and there’s something you need that I’ve been hoping to try. Make it’s a special effect on a website, or a certain style of design for a printed piece. While I would never promise something I couldn’t deliver, I am always excited to learn for you on my dime. In cases like this, I will be completely honest with you regarding my experience with the task and what reasonable expectations should be. But the idea is that I figure it out on my time, at no charge to you, with the hope that you get the design solution you’re looking for at an unbeatable price, and I get a new tool in my toolbox.

monster answering questions

You've got questions, I've got answers.

How much does _____ cost?

All pricing is done per project.  Each one is unique, with its own challenges and its own solution.  However, I have no problem giving you a quick ballpark estimate for your project just to make sure we’re on the same page.  I’ve completed everything from small design tasks that only took an hour, all the way up to a 60-page website that spread over several months.  Chances are, I have a pretty good idea of what it takes to complete your project.  Reach out to me on the contact page and I will get back to you within 24 hours.  If you like what I have to say, we’ll set up a call to discuss the project in more detail.

Do you charge by hour or by project?

It depends.  My primary goal is providing a payment plan that you feel comfortable with.  I find that for smaller, easier to track tasks like website updates and maintenance, hourly billing makes sense.  But for larger projects where you can’t easily account for the total time spent up front, agreeing on a total project price upfront is better.  Regardless of the approach, I will do everything I can to provide value to you and your business beyond the number following the dollar sign on the invoice.

Can you do quick-turnaround jobs?

Yes!  The biggest advantages to being a “team of one” are that I know exactly what I’m capable of, and that I don’t have to depend on the availability of others to complete a project.  I may not be a miracle worker, but I will ALWAYS try to make it happen.  I don’t like wasting any opportunity.  If I can deliver for you when nobody else can, I know you’ll trust me in the future for other projects.

How are final files delivered?

Final files are delivered exactly as you need them, depending on the use case. For website projects, I will deliver a zipped folder of all site files organized in the proper structure, allowing you to simply upload them via FTP. For projects like WordPress websites that require a database, I can even set up the database on your server and migrate the site files to your server as well, free of charge.

For print projects, I will provide final high resolution, print-ready files. All you’ll need to do is send them to your printer. If any adjustments are needed by the printer, I will take care of them for you.

For digital projects like social media graphics, I will provide all files in the exact size and format required by the platform using it. Each image will be optimized to ensure the highest quality and smallest file size. If you’d like a more hands-off approach, I can create and manage the posts for you.

Do you offer web hosting & maintenance?

Yes and yes! First, let me reiterate #4 of my honesty policy – I’m not here to upsell you and to convince you that my hosting is required, or that you can’t maintain your website on your own. However, if you’d like help with either of these, I would be happy to. Whether we’re building a brand-new website, or you have existing hosting that’s too expensive or not performing well, I can provide you with reliable and affordable hosting and a human point of contact should anything go wrong. I can also configure custom email addresses using your domain name.

In terms of website maintenance, there are two ways to approach it. If you plan on updating your site regularly (which is great for SEO!), I can put together a custom monthly plan for you. This would provide you with an allotment of time each month where I can update your site or add new content. The best part? The maintenance would be billed at a significant discount to my normal rate. If, on the other hand, your site requires less frequent updates, or you’ll be managing it on your own, I’m always available to help on an individual basis. Just reach out anytime you need help, let me know what you need, and I’ll give you an estimate.
